Mount Kenya Climbing: 8 Days and 7 nights In Chogoria - Out Sirimon Route

The Chogoria route comes highly recommended due the breath taking views like valleys the temple, harns, rivers and water falls accommodation on this route are mainly camps. The descent down the Sirimon route is easy with a view of different vegetation and wildlife. There are huts for accommodation on this route though camping is allowed if one desires. 

Day 01:Nairobi-chogoria town 

Upon arrival in Chogoria Town Transfer to snow peak hotel for an overnight stay. Meal plan: {B}  

Day 02: Mt Kenya Bandas (2,950m) 1.5hrs -2hrs, 5km.

A drive from Chogoria town which we take a 4*4 vehicle to drive up where we start our hike via the bamboo forest. The vehicle helps in cutting most of the lower ground. We walk for 1.5hours -2 hours to the Mt Kenya Bandas for dinner and an overnight gaining a 680m ascent. Meal plan: {B, L, D} 

Day 03: Mt Kenya Bandas – Lake Ellis – Rodhead Campsite (3,300m) 4hrs, 12Km

Enjoy breakfast and then begin the journey up the mountain. Depart Mt Kenya Meru Bandas for Lake Ellis with the sight of the Mugi hill, Ithanguni and they are worth every extra mile, stopover for some few minute at Lake Ellis for photography; thereafter proceed to Rodhead for lunch. After Lunch visit Nithi waterfall and Mau Mau Caves. After walk back to Rodhead campsite for dinner and overnight stay. Meal plan: {B, L, D} 

Day 04: Rodhead – Minto’s Camp. (4,300m) 13km,

After breakfast we continue our journey up the mountain via Gorges Valley, it is about a 6 hours hike to our next camp. The Gorges Valley offers the best views of the peaks and when you turn behind the Mugi hills and the Giants Billiards Table are amazing. Close by the Minto’s camp is the temple with a spectacular view of Lake Michaelson beneath it. Dinner and overnight. Meal plan: {B, L, D} 

Day 05: Minto`s walk (Acclimatization Day)

On this day walk around the camp. Dinner and overnight Stay at the Camp. Meal plan: {B, L, D} 

Kindly note*on this day if you will be fit enough we will walk to the gorges (Approximately 3-4 Hrs) 

Day 06: Minto’s – Pt. Lenana (4,985m)   Shiton's camp. (4200m 10km,)

This is a busy day that starts at three am in order to enjoy sunrise at the peak of point Lenana. After that rewarding experience, we descend to the Shimpton’s camp for breakfast and overnight at the camp. Meal plan: {B, L, D} 

Day 07: Shiton's camp - Old Moses camp

After breakfast, begin a 5 hour 14km descent via Mackinder`s valley to the Old Moses camp. ( 3,300m). The descent is gentle and it offers ample time to enjoy fascinating scenery which includes the moorlands before reaching the camp. Dinner and overnight at Old moses camp. Meal plan: {B, L, D} 

Day 08: Old Moses camp – Sirimon 1.5-2 hours, 9km -Nairobi

After the much needed rest and breakfast in the morning, descend to the Sirimon Park gate for about 1.5-2 hours, 9km to catch a vehicle for a drive back to Nairobi arriving late in the afternoon. Meal plan: {B, L}
